The short explanation of this alert was:

Every day lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans go to work for the federal government. Each day they are reminded that as federal employees, no matter how dedicated they are to doing the best possible job, the federal government does not provide equal pay for equal work. LGBT Americans deserve no less for their families than the basic benefits and protections afforded to different-sex spouses. While Congress must act before partners and families of federal employees can have equal access to benefits, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), as the federal government's HR department, can lead the way in calling for truly equal compensation for federal workers.

Open Season for the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program began on November 10 and runs through December 8. This is the perfect time to tell OPM -- our families matter!

Send a message to OPM Acting Director Michael Hager, telling him that ALL federal employees should be treated equally and have access to the same benefits to help protect our families.
