A wedding or commitment ceremony is a special occasion for a loving couple. Making a donation in honor of their declaration of love is a great way to celebrate their special day, but also a great way to support HRC's work.

To make a contribution in honor of a specific couple's upcoming wedding or commitment ceremony, please view HRC's Wedding Registry below. To make a contribution in honor of marriage equality for all couples, please click here.

Each donation made in honor of a couple's wedding or commitment ceremony will be recognized with a personalized acknowledgement to the couple, as a symbol of their family and friends' love and celebration of their union, as well as, a recognition of your commitment to equality.

Chris and Peter
October 4, 2008

Chris and Peter met in New York City 10 years ago when a mutual friend organized a shared beach house. That first summer, the two men were inseparable during their weekends together: swimming in the ocean, star gazing on the beach, and competitively completing crossword puzzles under the sun.

The romantic friendship didn’t blossom until several years later in October of 2000 when Chris and Peter began a dating relationship that steadily grew into what they knew would be a lasting partnership. They have planned a wedding for October 4th in Los Angeles, in the backyard of the house where Peter grew up. Their immediate families will be in attendance.

John and Gil
October 4, 2008

John and Gil met in Seattle, WA in 1974, at a bar that no longer exists. John was a teacher (driver's education) and Gil was between jobs at that time and was planning to go back to school (which he subsequently did). John continued teaching for the next 28 years. After two-plus years of school, Gil worked for structural/consulting engineering firms in drafting/design for 25 years. John and Gil lived in Seattle until 1984 and then moved to a nearby island where they lived for the next 18 years.

"We would like people to donate to HRC because it is an organization which we fully support in all of its efforts to help educate people about what being gay is all about and equal rights for all, not just the heterosexual community," say John and Gil.

Mike and Ken
October 4, 2008

Mike and Ken met over ten years ago at the California Men’s Gathering, started dating a month later, and steadily spent more time together as they fell in love. Mike and Ken discovered a mutual interest in classical music and have been making music together ever since – literally. Mike plays violin; Ken plays piano and composes from time to time. Mike loves playing concertos that are transcribed for piano and violin. Ken likes pieces where the melody trades back and forth between the two instruments..

Besides their love of music, Mike and Ken like to ski, square dance, and spend time with family and friends. A big part of their lives together has revolved around raising their daughter, who was six when they met and is now driving. She is growing up quickly and they are very proud of her.

October 11, 2008

Mel and Leslie met on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend in 2006. A casual evening grew into an amazing relationship. They now share a home in Santa Cruz with Leslie's 7-year-old daughter. Mel and Leslie are planning a wedding ceremony to include friends and family on October 11, 2008.

"Although nothing will ever annul our wedding," say Mel and Leslie, "it is very important to us that we remain legally married in the state of California. The presence of family and friends at our wedding is a testimony of the support we have in our being together. In lieu of a personal gift, a donation to HRC in our names is another way to support our marriage."

Kaitlin and Krysta
October 11, 2008

In May 2003, Kaitlin and Krysta met while doing archaeology on the tiny Caribbean island of Nevis. They quickly became inseparable and have travelled, worked, and lived together ever since. They've had a wonderful love and adventure-filled five years together so far, and are looking forward to a lifetime more!

Kaitlin and Krysta currently live in Rhode Island. When they became engaged, same-sex marriages conducted in Massachusetts and civil unions in Connecticut were not legally recognized by the state of Rhode Island, so they did not make plans to legally wed. The situation appears to be changing for the better in Massachusetts, so they will take advantage of the opportunity to wed legally when it becomes available.

Simon and Brian wanted to make this a legal commitment, so they traveled to Massachusetts and were married by a minister who is a friend of Brian's family from his childhood. "We've always known that we were meant to be together, we've found that the love that has grown from our public commitment is huge."

April 7, 2009

PL and Judy first met in Champaign, Illinois in 2000. They both soon realized that they wanted to spend their lives together. PL moved to Rockford and for over a year, they commuted back and forth (more than three hours each way) to see each other almost every weekend, since Judy was still living in Champaign.

"We are deeply saddened by the setback of Proposition 8 but we will move forward with our wedding. Our friends and family have been amazing in their support and commitment to our wedding and our relationship. We are so excited for our celebration and we can't wait for April." PL and Judy have guests coming from Illinois, Florida, Ohio and Oregon. "We can't believe how many of our closest friends and family are standing up with us."

April: "Nikki came through the drive-through of where I was working while going through my first year of college. She is the most amazing woman. She knows how to make me feel loved and protected."

Nikki: "April is the most beautiful and intelligent woman I have ever met in my life. I knew the first time I saw her that I loved her. Every time I look into her beautiful eyes it reminds me that God made this woman just for me."

April and Nikki want people to donate to HRC instead of a traditional gift because "we deserve this, it is our right as a gay or lesbian or transgendered human being in this 'free' country we live in to have the option of marriage," say April and Nikki. "No matter what state we live in."

Lindsey and Colleen
September 12, 2009

Lindsey and Colleen met during the summer of 2001 working as camp counselors on Vashon Island, outside of Seattle. Despite the fact when Colleen first told Lindsey that she loved her, Lindsey's first reaction was to laugh (they chalk it up to sheer happiness), Colleen said yes when Lindsey proposed at a riverside picnic. After more than seven years together, Colleen and Lindsey were ready to set a date.

Collen and Lindsey currently live in Washington D.C. but will celebrate their love by holding their wedding on Vashon Island, on the same shores where they first met. They will follow their ceremony with a honeymoon in San Francisco.

Eric and Jason
November 14, 2009

Eric and Jason met online on November 14, 2002. They dated for months before making the 'big move.' Eric and Jason helped one another through school, moving multiple times to multiple states, and ultimately landed in Washington, D.C.

Eric and Jason got engaged during a recent trip to Venice. This is their description of that important moment: "On our last night, shortly after dinner and an amazing theater performance, Eric and I took one of our last strolls through the city. There was a light rain falling so we were sharing an umbrella and after discovering a remote, dry corner where no rain could reach us, we sat briefly in silence. It was then that Eric proclaimed his immense joy, love, adoration and admiration for our relationship. He presented an eye-catching band and asked if I would make him this happy forever."
